H&W releases SYSB-II 6.3

H&W has announced the release of the 6.3 version of the SYSB-II software, a system tool for IBM mainframe computers that allows VSAM batch processing during the business day, without impacting CICS online activity.

The new features of this release include:

  • An architecture change that ends SYSB-II's reliance on the user key CSA storage. SYSB-II and many other third-party applications have traditionally made use of this parameter. However, IBM now recommends that users leave the ALLOWERUSERKEYCSA parameter set to the default of NO to prevent a potential security risk. H&W changed SYSB-II so that the software will continue to work properly, no matter how users set this parameter.
  • H&W has enhanced SYSB-II's processing of an RLS file for READ PASS-THRU. This change has improved performance and reduced the amount of system resources used in an RLS environment.
  • H&W has enhanced SYSB-II to accommodate RLS files in Sequential or Skip Sequential mode, which ensures the correct positioning of the file prior to Read/Write requests. This change also improves performance and reduces the amount of system resources used in an RLS environment.

Customers can order the new release by contacting H&W at support@hwcs.com or 1-208-377-8436.

New release of WebTek software announced

H&W has announced the 2.3.3 release of WebTek software, which extends CICS data and applications to the Web, is now generally available.

The new features of this release include:

  • Enhanced support for a signon security exit that provides additional controls to security administrators.
  • Support for mixed-case passwords to potentially make passwords more secure.
  • A new WebTek Pipeline API for .NET that enables application developers to more readily use the Pipeline capabilities with the .NET framework.
  • Microsoft header support to improve results for Internet Explorer.
  • A Pipeline persistent session for trusted users that eliminates the need to authenticate repeatedly.
  • Changes to the TCLR function that improve performance by requiring fewer resources.

Support for WebTek release 2.3.2 will continue until June 4, 2008.

H&W releases SYSD and CPMS 6.6.1

H&W has announced the release of SYSD and CPMS version 6.6.1. The new release of these products includes the following enhancements:

SYSD Editor

  • Support for labels using the .LABEL command.
  • True hex data support.
  • Continued expansion of commonly used ISPF-like commands to follow through on H&W's commitment to ISPF compatibility.

General display and utilities

  • Added wildcard support for the LISTCAT (=3.4) utility.
  • Enhancement to the JES2 spool file, or condition code display, to highlight nonzero condition codes.
  • PROG enhancements that help verify where a program resides and from which library CICS loaded the program.

Operating system compatibility

  • Support for z/OS through release 1.9 and CICS Transaction Server through release 3.2.

SYSD is a CICS-based complement to ISPF and SDSF. SYSD offers ISPF-like edit, browse, and job submission; JES2 spool display and monitoring; print routing and printer control of system and CICS printers; DASD utilities; CICS monitoring; and debugging utilities. SYSD includes the CICS Print Management System (CPMS).

CPMS is a low-overhead alternative to SDSF and JES328x that runs under CICS. CPMS allows CICS users to monitor and display the JES2 SPOOL, route and delete jobs, and manually or automatically print JES2 SYSOUT datasets on CICS printers. Read the news release now.
